Well, I have never used this or any other rattle can bedliner on anything and I’ve been curious about it. It looks like it would be a good coating for various other stuff, and good for this purpose. This looked like a good opportunity to experiment with it. I doubt I’d ever actually use it for a truck bed, although after spraying it on this I think it would probably do a pretty good job if you wanted a thinner fairly slick liner. I think it was about $12/can, and it took 2 cans to decently coat this fairly small deck. It would probably take a bed full of cans to do a whole bed.

Well, at the end of this whole shebang, upon mounting the blades I discovered that both of my spindle shafts were bent pretty good. The blade tips were out vertically about 3/8” on one, 1/2” on the other. I wouldn’t have guessed from the way it mowed, it did a pretty good job. Probably explains a lot of the vibration though.

So, I went to work with the press, some V-blocks, and a dial indicator. I wasn’t too optimistic, but what’s to lose? Amazingly, after an afternoon of inventing new words I got them pretty good. Within about .003 on the worst one. Proof’s in the pudding, these pics are of the worst of the two. The vertical disparity between tips  on this one is now about 1/16”, the other pretty much dead on. For clarity this is a piece of tape on the deck wall with a reference mark, each blade tip aligned with it in turn.

How dahell could one bend those shafts?

Which ones you got on there?  3/4" bearing or metric?

Never mind,  I looked back... You have those other type spindle.

Mounted on the now even sadder looking tractor.

I know the book says to level it in the middle height selector hole, but we only ever run it in the highest position so that’s where I’m going to set it up. Plus it’s easier to get under like that, Ha.

Well this just doesn’t look right to me. I haven’t tried to level it yet. This is in the mow position, height selector set at highest setting. Front gauge wheels are 3” off of the ground. I’m going to get in the tractor manual & see if the deck lift assy is rigged correctly. Looks to me like it’s not dropping the deck far enough. Any suggestions appreciated.

Here’s part of it. Deck lift arm. Evidently at some point somebody was driving it around with no deck on it and the lift arm down, ran into something with the arm and bent the hinge been pretty bad. This was causing the top of it above the hinge pin to hit the structure above, and not letting the arm drop all of the way.

Mucho bettero. I clamped it down to a steel table in my shop & went after it with a piece of pipe.

Tuneup

Looks good to me, though I'm not experienced with the later decks. Odd for me to see anti-scalp style gauge wheels. Are they standard? Used to grease zerks and good rubber with tread. The fronts are always anti-scalp and normally not near the ground. Looks fine to me and you'll be more confident when you have the time to level it.

Thanks! Tuneup, as far as configuration goes I’m not sure of anything on this tractor. It was a complete heap when I got it, not running. I got it good enough, and we’ve been mowing with it for about 10 years. Slowly getting it straightened out.

This looks much more natural to me now. This is with the height adjuster in the middle position. The rear wheels are on the ground, the anti-scalp wheels are about an inch off of the ground, and notice the front hanger bar that goes into the hitch is now near vertical; it was near horizontal before.

Puzzling; it mowed ok before, and that lift arm has been bent the whole time.  ???  The lift assy was pretty stiff & sticky, so I lubed it all up. Maybe it was just a combination of things.
