ebinmaine 67,619 #1 Posted May 22, 2021 Where do we get foam to rebuild a seat? Are there options for a denser type?
8ntruck 7,016 #2 Posted May 22, 2021 Any upholstery supply house. Sorry, could not resist the smart a$$ answer. Yes, there are different densities to choose from. I've seen blocks of the stuff at places like Hobby Lobby. Don't know how suitable that foam is, though. Try a search of 'upholstery foam' on the interweb. It's like you were both thinking the same... Can't do upholstery shop.. Ain't any around. We bought some when we built the Cinnamon Horse 2 years ago but it's too thin and "fluffy" I need a much denser type.
8ntruck 7,016 #5 Posted May 22, 2021 McMaster Carr also has a selection of industrial foam. Choice of materials and durometer ratings. Most of this stuff is really firm.
Stepney 2,325 #6 Posted May 22, 2021 Hit up one of the marine supply places in Portland. They carry various types of boat seat foam that hold up a lot better in the humidity. Wont mold up.

SylvanLakeWH 25,600 #8 Posted May 22, 2021 (edited) I used an old foam backpackers sleeping pad - ensolite - because I had it on hand so the price was right. Got the vinyl out of the jungle… cheap. Works fine butt, shall we say, my rear would appreciate a wee bit more… Edited May 22, 2021 by SylvanLakeWH

Ain't any around Purchase some carpet padding, use spray adhesive to laminate layers together until you have desired thickness. Carve it to your desired shape, an electric knife works great for shaping foam.
roadapples 6,983 #10 Posted May 22, 2021 Those pads for neeling on doing yard work are pretty dense. May need more than one...

peter lena 8,634 #12 Posted May 22, 2021 @ebinmaine , asking for a denser type ? boat seating foam is best for that , that foam is lifesaving specific , use that regularly for my knee exercises , firm yet very compliant . most boat supply shops have a foam scrap bin from left overs , on seats , comes various thicknesses , I have 3" and 1 1/2 ". makes kneeling on a hard floor with artificial knees a non issue . pete
Lane Ranger 10,968 #13 Posted May 22, 2021 (edited) If you can get it the best stuff to use is aircraft foam. More dense but still pliable. I used on a couple of seats with new seat covers. Edited May 22, 2021 by Lane Ranger
