MapleGuy 10 #1 Posted May 21, 2021 I have a C140 hydro with a Wheel Horse tiller that I bought together last summer. When I lower the tiller to the ground, it doesn't have enough power to turn through the soil. It just stops. I've already been through the garden with a plow and disc, so the soil is loose. I just need the tiller to break up some of the small chunks to get it ready for planting. I don't know if it's the correct belt on the tiller, but it seems to fit snugly and I have the spring on the mule drive to keep it tight. The belt doesn't seem to be slipping anywhere. And I don't think it's overly tight, either. I'm wondering if the friction plate (I'm not sure if that's the correct term for it) on the PTO is worn out so that it's slipping and not transferring enough power to the belt? The old boy I bought this rig from said it worked great and didn't give me any reason to doubt him. Any ideas if it could be the PTO or if I could have done something wrong in the set-up? Thanks! Racinbob 11,081 #2 Posted May 21, 2021 It's possible that a simple PTO adjustment will fix you up. There's a trunnion at the PTO end of the rod that connects to the lever. Tighten that up a few turns and see if that helps. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Pullstart 62,881 #3 Posted May 21, 2021 Could you explain what it is that stops? If it is the PTO bell, I’d say @Racinbob nailed it! If it is still spinning but the tiller is not, check belt quality and make sure the set screw on that rear pulley is tight.
