Is this an actual Wheel Horse PTO, or is it a transplant of some kind?211551283_pto(2).jpg.38678c1b142eeb54e2044257daa89105.jpg

With all the mechanism, and switches, and contraptions on the mechanical PTO, it sure seems like this would be simpler. And cheaper.

It is missing the bracket that holds the field coil motionless.  Virtually all machines made in the last 20 years or so use Electric clutches....

That brings up another question. When and what was the last Wheel Horse produced? The latest I could find was a 16-44HXL, made in 2006.
