Bill D 1,926 #1 Posted May 19, 2021 I saw a thread on here about Kohler fuel pumps that were operated by crankcase vacuum instead being operated by a lobe on the camshaft. Anyone know why Kohler changed to the camshaft operated pumps? The vacuum pulse pump could be used on any engine without the need for different lever designs. Just curious. ebinmaine 67,623 #2 Posted May 19, 2021 I know the small blocks used a vacuum pulse pump in the early years until at least 67. Trina's 867 has one. Not sure about the big blocks of that era. @OldWorkHorse Steve have you removed the fuel pump from the 12 horse engine on the 1257? Maybe the switchover was done for strength and reliability reasons? Did Kohler ever go back to vacuum pulse pumps in the recent years?

All the kohlers , kawasakis had the pulse pumps at least 20 years back maybe more.
Maxwell-8 4,277 #6 Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) Probably more reliable (more powerfull) as it's also used on a lot of older cars. As fueltanks are further/lower from the carb in those applications. But also in like a 300-series WH. Edited May 19, 2021 by Maxwell-
