How Do I Remove A HY Hydraulic Unit from 953/1054

Recommended Posts

So I was at the farm and started trying to remove the Hy Hydraulic pump from the tractor.   i want to pull it and clean it out for storage in case theirs any water in the bottom of it. The cylinder hoses were already disconnected from it.  I got the pulley set screw loose and PB blaster soaking through the hole out the shaft, put the pulley won't budge.  There's not enough room to put a bearing separator behind the pulley, and I'm concerned even a bearing separator would damage the pulley.  I don't have a torch for heat at the farm, so I need some advice.

Pulley has to come off. Pump pulls out thru the other side. If you could find a used pulley, you could cut the old one off. Or buy a Mapp gas torch at a hardware and try heating it or melting candle wax on the shaft.

What ever you do, DO NOT hit the end of the shaft with a punch and a hammer. You will shatter the pump gears.

You can use a hammer to assist getting the pulley off if the pump is disassembled and the plate in the picture above has been removed.

If you are only setting it up for long term storage, I would loosen the bolt on the reservoir and turn it so that the fill hole is pointed down. Drain it out, turn it back to the top and put some oil in it. :twocents-twocents:

Yep. They said it all!  Once you get that pulley off, you’re home free.  Maybe just get you a vat of oil and drop the whole thing in for a couple months, sans the seat!

Thanks

@squonk, @Achto, That's the kind of advice I need so  don't break things.

@pullstart Your on to something!  I wish I had a tank big enough to put a whole tractor in and just etank it before I start disassembly.

Horse trough?  Used oil and diesel/kerosene does wonders too!

oh man, i doubt if it would really work that good, but in my imagination you leave it in the tank for a couple weeks and then pull it out, good as new, ready for paint

still, something to be said for all that cleaning without the blood and sweat :thumbs2:
