In need of new Tires for 701 project

Recommended Posts

Shawn P

I'm not sure if this is posted in the right place but I'm looking for some new rubber for my 701 restoration. Needing 4 rear ag 6-12's or bigger if they fit and 2 new fronts. I like the ribbed ones I've seen on the fronts of some of you guys rigs. Any good places to find American made tires that look close to the old rotted rear general tires I have on there now?  Sifting through web sites has me head spinning. Also needing a dual wheel kit spacer kit if anyone knows who makes them. I am not a tire expert by any means so specific brands and sizes would be helpful.

Find a Lincoln Tire place near you...they have the tires for Garden Tractors and the equipment to change them for you.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

You got a 701 in resto we gonna hold some choice tire info hostage until we see some :text-coolphotos:..kidding...:ychain:

What are you thinking about for rears, ags, turfs, diamonds? Got a budget or the little woman give ya free rein?

I did a re-resto on a 702 awhile back and found some  nice Carlisle ags  on the jungle site for a real good price. When forking out for four rears price can be an issue lest she don't know.

Dan @Achto just did a re-resto on a 701 he'll put up some pics of what he went with. Miller tire is always a favor here for a go to tire supplier. More suppliers in the RS links section.

On the adapters there are some drawings in files on building them. If your not up to making yer own talk to @wheelhorseman

BTW  6-12 on the rears is preferred, especially if going with duals but no crime on bolting up wide rims. All depends on the look yer lookin for and what the old lady is telling you can spend.  Older round hood with dual wide rims? What say ye fellas? Might be rad?

Not a whole lot to show other than a pile of parts accumulated. Oh and a 2nd 701 I found. Whoops. Thanks again guys for the pics and tips. Anything to help lessen the amount of time it takes scouring the web is extremely helpful.  No budget here really.  Just trying to get this thing back to where it will outlast my kids.

So I have a few other parts I'm trying to hunt down as well if you guys don't mind. Looking for a seat. Seems like most of what's out there is cheap looking knock offs. Probably prefer round one with holes. Also anyone know if Glen Pettit is still making the dash panels?

No dont mind at all..... He is but can be a hard guy to get ahold of ... age & health  thing..on the seat thing a square pan would be correct but hard to find .. what I call a five holer round somewhat easier. Sounds like Lowell has got you hooked up on the dash.

In your ear! That one is a go to now.

Tell you what tho you being a '65 guy you got first dibs and if you play real nice you might get some seat time on it.

Thinking about it being my ride around at the BS.

Not sure what I'm gonna do with the 2nd one yet. Just found out she runs. Took some part swapping.  It shook off about 8lbs of rust and dirt but runs pretty darn good.

So I have a few questions about the drive belt guard on this thing. It's been repaired at least once and I'm not sure if it's missing some things. I've seen a few threads on this but I would like to be clear on a couple things. Is it supposed to have a small arm on the front at the bottom as I've seen some of the on some of them? Is that the clutch finger that the owners manual refers to in the clutch adjustment instructions or is there another piece missing? Any body out there be willing to make me two of these belt guards with all the correct parts?  The one I have is janky and the 2nd tractor is missing completely. No paint needed as I will be painting the whole tractor at some point.

Anyone know how I register the serial numbers on these two tractors to the list on the forum. I have 54351 and 54232. Didn't see them on there so I would like to add them. Additionally does someone make the reproduction stickers for all of them that originally came on the 701 including the serial #? Also the engine ID tag shown in picture below was painted over. Anyone out there reproduce these?

Lastly (lol I'm sure I'll come up with more questions) i have some fuel issues.. Is there a carburetor bowl available to replace the original with the springy drain button hole in it? One of the tractors had the hole plugged and the other has the drain still in it but it leaks terribly. I would like to replace the bowls to alleviate any further issues. One other thing I will be looking for are the fuel line compression connections for the copper line from the pump to the carb. Both tractors rubbers in these connections are dry rotted to hell.

@gwest_ca can resister your serial numbers.  Post a picture of the tractors and the serial numbers for his records.

For decals go to the Vendor Section and Reproduction Graphics will fix you up. Terry @Vinylguy on here, he is the best!

If you don't find a carb bowl on Flebay, you can plug that with JBWeld, it will hold!
