Jonnyrocket132 38 #1 Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) I just bought a B 80 that is in rough shape with the original K181 8 horse power motor for $50 but the rod let go and cracked the camshaft in half and it didn't damage the bore and everything else inside the engine is untouched by the debris because the guy that owned it before me was smart enough not to keep on turning the starter. does anyone know where I can find a cam shaft for this B 80 8 speed that isn't $200? Pullstart 63,250 #2 Posted May 18, 2021 I have a K-161 I believe that I’ve robbed some parts from. I have no idea if it’s the same cam...
Jonnyrocket132 38 #3 Posted May 18, 2021 is it an 8 horse power Kohler engine?

Part number might be cast into it. 161 is a 7 but same innards. Put an ad in wanted Johnny ... some body is gonna have that cam. Keep an eye on fleabay too. Same thing happened to a 301 for me and @Shynon had a cam. When the rod goes it will only go two ways, one it going to bust the cam, the other is ventilating the block. I have a parts b80 that I would sell you as far as I know motor is good and complete. It’s listed on here and I’m flexible on price. Not firm. stevasaurus 22,919 #14 Posted May 18, 2021 I think the cam in the K-161 is a 2 piece...the cam in the K-181 is a one piece.
WHX?? 49,537 #15 Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) Now yer gonna go make me look Steve! A-231511-S comes up as a good PN for both motors but it does depend on spec number. Guessing ACR has something to do with it. A-230155-S also comes up as a good PN for both too one has a metal gear one 231511 has a plastic. I did some reading awhile back and your right acr does have somthing to do with it. Looks like around 1964 it changed possibly?
Jonnyrocket132 38 #17 Posted May 19, 2021 wait, so the B 80 is from 1964? I know I could look at the sticker that says the model number but the previous owner when he repainted it (with spray paint) he painted over the model number sticker

B80 is from the early to mid 70s

I did have a K241 in the restoed 1055 that did not have the ACR so maybe a left over '64 motor? We talk abit about it on page two of the resto thread. Two 1055's - Restorations, Modifications, & Customizations - RedSquare Wheel Horse Forum Interesting enough too Bailey my 1045 with the short pan often struggles to roll the motor over. Never bothered to look see what cam is in it tho.
Jonnyrocket132 38 #20 Posted May 19, 2021 oh okay, because I have been trying to find out what year my B 80 8 speed manual is since you know the model number sticker was painted over

A best guess would be in the 1974-1976 range. @stevasaurus what did you say we use to remove paint over model stickers? I use acetone on metal ones but not sure if that should be used on the decal ones.

Somthing about an idling 8 or 10 horsepower k series just a popping away slowly gives me the fizz
WHX?? 49,537 #24 Posted May 19, 2021 Engine numbers dates it to a 1975 Johnny. Spec # is also correct for that year so 1975 it is. If there is a model number under the paint it should be a 1-0141.
