My guess is that the hood is not grounded, I’d take a wire from the negative terminal on the battery to the bolts that hold the headlight bezel in place. If that works then you have a bad connection at the hood hinge.

that is what I thought to because there wasn't a grounding wire for the lights but after I installed one it still didn't work. so this one has me stumped again.:eusa-think:

I was about to take the engine apart and fix what I thought was the timing was a little off but I fired it up just to be sure and it idled really well and when I revved it it didn't even hesitate or nothing. so it just started running better all of a sudden. also I got the headlights to work and the tail light works to. Now the only thing left to do is get an inner tube for the back right tire.

unfortunately after I tested the pto today with the mower deck the engine started knocking really bad and I only started mowing for a few minutes.

Update on the B 80,

I bought another engine rebuild kit since it did end up throwing another newish rod and it survived it so I am gonna try to rebuild it again.

I installed the new oem rod and new gaskets from the rebuild kit and it runs even better than it did before

Yeah this one has shown me that it doesn't want to die yet after three different rods letting go and this is the fourth and hopefully the last one that will last
