reginab 56 #1 Posted May 16, 2021 (edited) OK, so I finally got my lift, scored one today, and when I took off the front wheels I noticed the left spindle (right in picture) is shorter with a different setup. Anyone have any ideas on this one? The front wheels have different hubs too! Thanks in advance! -bob Edited May 16, 2021 by reginab

My guess would be that at some point one of the tubes developed a leak causing the calcium chloride it get in between the tube and the rim. This would cause the rim to rot out. Instead of looking for the correct rim, the PO installed a newer rim and adjusted the spindle to work. Just my theory. 2
953 nut 55,321 #3 Posted May 16, 2021 Looks like at some time in the past 63 years a previous owner put some sort of spacer on the axel.
reginab 56 #4 Posted May 16, 2021 Thanks Achto! Here's what I have now and notice the spindle. I wonder if the whole spindle came from some other tractor? I guess I'll be searching for some parts in June. -bob

reginab 56 #6 Posted May 17, 2021 Thanks for the information on the calcium chloride. That probably explains the weld and the incorrect location for the valve stem on that rim. -bob
reginab 56 #7 Posted May 17, 2021 Thanks 953 Nut! I'll keep my fingers crossed that I can remove it and the spindle is still in good shape. -bob
reginab 56 #8 Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) Success! Thank you Achto and 953 Nut! A little persuasion and some WD40 got the spacer off. Someone did a little filing too but it doesn't look too bad. -bob Edited May 17, 2021 by reginab
oliver2-44 9,761 #9 Posted May 17, 2021 The correct rim for your RJ also fits the 1960 * 61 WH Suburban. As mentioned they have a longer center axle tube than most rims. because of the Calcium Cloride rusting them out they are a little hard to find, buth they are out there. One of our vendors A-Z Tractor may have some. He's a great guy to work with!
Lee1977 6,667 #10 Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) Tub trailer wheels have the 4 1/2" hub with no holes for wheel weights. Later model Wheel Horse wheels have a 3 3/4" hub. Edited May 17, 2021 by Lee1977
