417-8 Seized?

Recommended Posts

My father-in-law and I tried isolating the wiring problem it kept blowing fuses so we think there are wires touching somewhere down in the bowels of the engine. So I took the 417 over to "The Small Engine Barn" in Plymouth, where the good tractor doctor over there will most assuredly get it figured out. Upon the return, though, I will investigate adding additional grounding points.

Thanks again for the help. I'll try let you know what they discover was the issue.

I am always impressed by how helpful and kind you all are! Thank you so much and keep up the good work!

I never ever use the heated air in my Horses....never found a need to pump hot air into a carb. Heat kills !!!!

I do believe you have an electrical issue, and NOT a seized engine....Keep us posted, and let the air snorkel suck in ambient air ALWAYS !!!!   Unless you are in a below ZERO climate for 6 months

Just my take on things

Johnny he's in the north central hills area of New Hampshire. Definitely gets a bit tad chilly up there on occasion.

So, the mechanic I took and he figured out what was wrong with it. The flywheel and the alternator need to be replaced - the apparently, something fell off and caused both of those parts to get injured and it was also causing a short.

So, I am looking for a working flywheel and a working alternator for the Kohler KT17.

Anyone have any or know where I can get them?

Meanwhile, that beautiful tractor is useless until they can get replaced.

You've never experienced carburetor icing then...  do you plow or throw snow in the winter?

I have what I was told may be a "vented" KT17 here.

How do I figure out if that flywheel would work for Seth?

The engine is a KT17-24363, if that helps to narrow it down.

-24363.

Where do you get the number from? This one doesn't have any shrouds or anything on it.

The only markings on the KT17 are on a small shroud piece by the fuel pump. I suppose you could look at casting number on the flywheel see if it matches his needs...

@Seth Powers

Would you see if your repair person could get that casting number please?

You're welcome to PM me with your or their phone number or whatever if it's easier....

That’s what I thought too. Glad you were able to find the cause though.
