Wheel Horse 3D 3,795 #26 Posted May 13, 2021 ok last guess for me LOL, Square anvil, used like a wrench to open an old radiator steam trap. Then forks go under edge of trap and rubber pushes down on the valve to keep it closed while work is performed on the ol cast iron radiator. Best I got! And I insist that whether that's its intended purpose,It COULDA been used as such! (Just not sure of the dimensions)

Mickwhitt 4,642 #29 Posted May 13, 2021 OK. On the underside of the handle is the word SPRINKLAMP. The tool was designed to seal off the head of a fire sprinkler by clamping onto it, the rubber sealing the outlet. Possibly for replacing the cartridge that holds back the water. I'm not sure that early sprinkler systems could be isolated for safety reasons. Fire alarms used to be activated by a Pelton wheel being turned by the water going to the sprinkler heads and driving a fire bell: no power, switches etc. 1 2
DennisThornton 4,769 #30 Posted May 13, 2021 I would have never gotten it! Nor would I ever need it and here I thought I needed every tool!
Mickwhitt 4,642 #31 Posted May 13, 2021 Thats why I can confidently donate them to the tool museum. I will never have a need to service sprinklers lol.

8ntruck 7,016 #34 Posted May 14, 2021 Late to the party, again. After seeing the other views of the tool, I was going to guess that it clamped onto a fitting of some fitting and sealed it off. Would never have guessed fire sprinkler head, though.
Handy Don 12,236 #35 Posted May 14, 2021 One of my relatives used to test sprinkler systems. Gonna mention this one to him. He'll probably say, "of course, you gotta have something like that!"

Lee1977 6,666 #37 Posted May 14, 2021 I designed sprinkler systems back in the 70's for a couple of years. It could be used to stop the flow of one head that was set off or damaged. There is no way to used it for replacing a springer head with out cut off the water.
