Kohler k241 problems

So I have a parts 310-8 I’ve been trying to get running. My problem is the engine runs for 5 minutes and then starts sputtering and shooting exhaust back out the carb. Any clue what is happening? I’m pretty lost.

I’d start with a complete fuel system clean from carb to tank. New fuel line and filter. Complete carb clean.

You may be having an exhaust valve starting to hang up when it gets hot. Fire out the carb usually means there is still fire in the hole when the intake opens.

backfire thru inlet is always to rich, should clean out your carb and check the float and needle!   but rich could also mean no/bad spark.

might add in a possible bad condenser , or related spark issue. check out electrical plug in connect areas . corrosion , shorting out , pete
