Alternative fishing methods?

Recommended Posts

I’ve wanted for quite some time to stay up at night and throw some glow sticks in milk jugs and do some jug fishing... but I always seem to turn into a pumpkin when I sit after dark.  This method is pretty slick too!

Back in the late teens up through the depression, it was rather common to drop a Western Electric telephone magneto in the boat, run a lead of the mag off the bow and stern of the boat. Crank it over. It would stun the fish and they would float to the surface.. VERY illegal here in the US from what I've heard tell. Even back then.

Works on worms too, incidentally.

Those mags put out a heck of a jolt.

They also used the magneto from early Fords.

That would be good to add to a circle hook for big cats. It'd give them a good run to hook themselves.

I love bankline fishing. I need to learn the laws in Arkansas, now. I've lived in KS, OK, MO and now Arkansas. Every one has had different laws and definitions.

Edit- looks like they define a bank pole as a limbline. Can't use PVC like Oklahoma, but it makes sense that they only allow wood. Luckily, I have acres of small trees I can cut up.  😁

I used to have one from Walmart that had a ring built into the top so you could throw it like a frisbee. I lost the darn thing and WalMart quit selling it. I bought a new one and can kinda throw it in a circle. I sure need a boat.... 🤣

If you haven't ever bow fished for rough fish, I'd highly recommend it.

Bonus points if they're Asian carp.

I tried that with a group of buddies and our wives about 10-12 years back... late night and sunk a pontoon in the lake about 30 yards off the shoreline.  Good times, no fish though!  :ROTF:

You have to work really hard to sink a pontoon boat. I bet that really impressed some Wives

A sugar sack, a few black walnuts, and a couple of rocks. You simply put the walnuts (with the husks) in the sack, find an area where the water is not moving too fast, smash up the walnuts with the rocks, and throw it in the water. In a couple of minutes you scoop up the fish.

The fish are perfectly safe to eat, since the HCN has already bonded with the fish's blood. You can use peach pits, wild cherry leaves, bitter almonds, and numerous other plant materials. It’s the amygdalin that is doing the job.
