Paint experiment

In the near future, I am going to have to paint the hood for the C-125A. It's a Black Hood of course, so I thought I would have a little practice. As many of you know I have a spare hood for the 656.:hide: So I practiced on it. It was painted white a couple of weeks ago. I sanded the entire top with 400 grit, then taped off a pattern. The hood is badly pitted, and readily shows up in the pics. I gave it 3 coats of VHT Gloss Black engine enamel, and 2 wet coats of Rustoleum, Clear Gloss Lacquer. I would not say the line crispness is professional quality, but I think it will do. I don't know the best tape to use for this job. Also, like I said, this hood was painted 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure just how long the red will have to sit on the 125 hood. before it can be safely taped. The red will be Rustoleum Regal Red.

I have had the best results using Rustoleum Clear Enamel. It will cut and buff out to super shine. I experimented with the lacquer and it was not as durable. :twocents-02cents:

I use Magic paint 80/20 mix with hardener, applied with a cheap HF gun,  dry for a week and if possible leave in the sun. Top coat with the Rustoleum. (Rustoleum only available in rattle cans)

The belt cover picture has the enamel top coat after a 1500 grit sand and buffed.

My C 85 hood was / is badly pitted in few spots too…

I did rustoleum primer then two coats red two coats black. Rattle can rustoleum regal red and black. Red first, two days, taped with regular blue painters tape and did black. No issues…

I’m not a professional painter, but I’m easily impressed…
