Stihl Kombi

Any one have any experience with the Stihl Kombi system?  I'm looking at a KM111r and a couple of attachments, and I'm wondering how the durability of the multi function machines are.

Have a km131r. Use it with the string trimmer, hedge trimmer, broom/sweeper and pole saw attachments. It’s been a reliable machine for the last couple years and I don’t do nearly enough for maintenance with it. Basically I use it and wipe it down to get the extra stuff off it and change the oil, air filter if I remember. I don’t do any fuel additives/draining when not in use. It just works so I don’t mess with it.

I have the Yard Boss. Almost the same thing. pretty much the same engine. Attachments are quite similar. I have the tiler, trimmer and paddle sweeper. I run the pre-mixed 50:1 fuel they sell all over.

Have a KM 131 R as well, is a lot cheaper then all things seperate. Have a hedge trimmer with extension, brush cutter and string trimmer.

Has seen  lot of abuse, but still going strong! i think +/-10 years old

With the engine down low is called the multi-system. but the engine choice is very limited here to lower HP models

I have the kombi system with hedge trimmer, weedeater, edger, brush cutter, pole saw and reciprocater. I love it. Use it all the time and have had it three years with no issues. I’ve cut 3/4-1” tree saplings with the brush cutter and it wacks right through them.

I don't have a Kombi. Instead I have the FS110R Trimmer and the FB131 Bed Edger that I also use with the FC Edger head. The Bed Edger required the big engine but I only use it twice a year. Originally I would swap the Edger head on to the FS110R every week but that grew old. We have a number of beds by the house and I like the look it gives. Took me two seasons to break down and buy it  due to the price.

I would get the KM131 R instead. Make sure that you replenish the FS Gearbox Grease regularly.

Definitely buy the Stihl tubes of gearbox grease. There are two different kinds. Make sure you get the right one for your application.

20210508_161526.jpg.03f30a3af2b24fae0679f8b20884e794.jpgPicked up the KM111r and the string trimmer and edger. I could be wrong, but the gear case looks sealed. I thought I remember them having a bolt on the side to add grease, but this is solid

FS Gearbox Grease

Are you talking about the 'secret' grease port at the implement end of the curve shaft trimmers?  Or something else?

I actually have the straight shaft Pro models so I'm not familiar with the curved shaft trimmers. Yes, there is the screw that you remove and the tube screws into the hole. I give it two small squirts. The gearbox gets pretty hot in use and probably "burns" the grease.

My newest Stihl is the little GTA26 chainsaw. Nice and handy for pruning big bushes.

I've got the FS75 curved shaft.  If you remove the guard there is a screw there that allows one to use the little 'push type' of greasing tool to grease the bushing at the end of the shaft.  I don't believe the straight jobs have that though.  Instead you grease the gearbox, correct?  I wish I had the straight shaft, I don't care for the curved shaft, and neither did the guy that gave it to me.

Trip to the stihl dealer could fix that. :handgestures-thumbupright:  If I remember correctly, it was right at $100 for the straight shaft trimmer or edger heads.

Was that just for the head?  I know those are simple to replace, and so is the entire shaft interchangeable which is what I would need to do.

I did ask the dealer last time I was there and they said NO, but I knew he just wanted to sell me a new trimmer.  But I just got this one late last year and it's 'like new'.  The guy I got it from rarely used it because he didn't like it so much.  And then it needed a new carburetor which I took care of.  The cheap chinese one I got is working fine.  The old one is probably still good, I kept it, if this one craps out I'll clean up the old one and reinstall.  It was EXTREMELY hard to start, probably just the primer circuit.

Do you know off hand which model I need to get the parts for?  I think it's the FS-85 that has the straight shaft?  ( I'm going to do some Google-Fu and see what I can find out. )

The curved shaft only has a bearing at the bottom while the straight shaft has a pinion gear setup with a grease port. This is the one I have. Curved shaft is a wound wire shaft and the straight is a solid rod.

Curved shaft

Yeah, I would need the whole thing though, that's just the Kombi part.  To change from the curved to the Kombi, or the regular straight, I would need all the way from the motor on down.

Ok I understand now. Looked back and different poster from original  :laughing-rolling:  yeah you would need it all. Check local classifieds. May find a decent used one you could swap out the shafts

But if I found a decent used one I wouldn't need to swap anything out!  :eusa-think:

I need to find a used one with a bad motor and a good restuvit.
