You are going to need all of the attachment lift mechanism, mid hitch, rear axle hitch and PTO parts before you would be able to use a mower and plow.

Check your battery with a meter, if it is dropping below 9v while trying to crank then I would suspect a new battery is needed. Once it is running check your battery again, it should be between 13vdc and 14.5vdc. If it is not in this range chances are you will need a new regulator.

 

Engine oil is strait 30wt, should need just under 2qts.

You saying bad new battery Dan? I suppose it's not impossible. Belt slipping? My be that custom start button not rated to run the starter?

I've had bad new ones in the past. Good voltage but no load capacity. Saw this quite frequently on Harley's, mainly on batteries that were purchased at a certain large chain store that specializes in batteries. 

 

It is also a good idea to put a new battery on a trickle charge over night before installing it in a tractor. Been told that some batteries will set a memory when the very first load is put on them and will only charge to that memory spot in the future. Could be BS, could be gospel, IDK. What I do know is that I have had better luck with wet cell batteries since I started following this practice.

So the engine may be specked for 63 but your tractor’s serial number 62 1187 says it’s a 62 thanks @gwest_ca . Besides the front axle, starter/generator belt guard you also have the clutch/brake pedal, and early 62 straight shift lever of a 1961/62 . If you look at the hood stand where your lift lever should be the holes to mount the stop are offset .  In 63 they were level with each other for the adjustable stop . All these are adding up that it’s a 702 and not a 753 . I’m not trying to be a jerk here I’m following all the clues to what the tractor really is . This is all knowledge that I learned from the members of this great forum . You probably already know that the seat is wrong and have the replacement steering wheel that many wheel horses got put on throughout the years. 753 or 702 both great tractors to have. Yep, it's a 702 with a 753 engine.  @ACman  I take it Gerry verified the serial number as a 1962 number.  The seat is wrong for both the 702 & 753 and if it has more then 13 holes around the outside edge it is not even from Wheel Horse..  Good eye Jeff.

@ACman @stevasaurus are correct 702. Lift arm and rockshaft for this are only on 701,702,552.

You nailed it Jeff. Several dead giveaways. The only 63's that used that front axle were the Lawn Rangers and the 603. Nice write up.
