Knowledge 753

[Bhomberger 19]

I picked up a 753, needing general knowledge of this machine. It has something wrong with the transmission, gear pattern is wonky, no neutral to be found. And what accessories will fit it? And what general Maintenance should be done? Thanks!

Tell us if it the gearshift will move in the class in sideways H pattern. If not it might be stuck in 2 gears. 
 

Is there a good rubber boot on the gearshift down at top of transmission. If not it could have some water/rust in side.

No it goes side to side and will drop top left and right, boot is there it looks like it’s covered in grease

 It moves side to side but will it move forward & back? If one of your shift pawls is stuck in gear and the shifter ball popped out of place this would prevent you from getting the tranny into neutral. Best to remove the shifter handle so you can see where the shift pawls are located. Might need to use a screw driver to move them both to the neutral position before reinstalling the shifter.

The other think to check when shifter handle is removed is the ball end.  The ball on shifter end often wears from use or misuse making shifting difficult or unable to do.  
 

The shifter can be removed by loosening the dog point set screw on the top of the transmission holding the shifter in place.

              That is a sweet looking 753 you have there, even has the headlights.            

The attached thread should give you the information you'll need to remove and properly reinstall the shift lever.

We like to do the usual on a new to us; fluids change, fuel lines & filters, grease & inspect linkages. Electrical connections.

When you change the transmission oil there is a hump in the bottom center of transmission that prevents it from draining completely. Jack the front end up as high as you can to drain that area. If old oil is filthy or had water in it consider filling tranny with diesel and driving it should in each gear to help clean it up. Then refill with 2 quarts of 80w90w gear oil

Had a little tractor gathering at my ranch once and I "rented" my 753 to Kev for a little trail ride. He got lost and when we went back to to find him stranded. Only to find him giving mouth to mouth a screaming hot carb! Hey pics don't lie! He thought it was crap in the carb but it was a bad fuel pump! Hotter than hades out and the skeeters!

One problem I see with it right off the bat is that it’s a 702 and not a 753 . Just going from the clues of the front axle and starter/generator belt guard . @BhombergerCan you get a good picture of the serial number off the shift pattern decal and the data plate on the engine . It’s missing the lift arm and rocker shaft and that would be another clue as the 702 would just have a detent and a 753 would have the adjustable stop with a knob .Nice tractor either way  .

Ok I’ve done all the connections but am still not getting the cranking power I would expect with a new battery any ideas? And what motor oil and how many quarts

Yes the transmission gunk in their is filthy I’ll be going the diesel method this weekend

Hey this was simple and fixed the shifting issue, now for new fluids it was very chunky and old looking
