formariz 11,987 #1 Posted May 3, 2021 It’s obviously a plane but the question is what is it for. It is extremely rare and it has a rather specific function that was essential to build something present in every home. It is not modified it is in its original intended way. formariz 11,987 #7 Posted May 3, 2021 Keep in mind the clue. Every house has them. Of course they are no longer made by hand. One can do the same job by hand without this plane. The plane however allowed for it to be done much faster in a production like arrangement. Don’t feel bad it’s not an easy one since most have never seen such a plane. DennisThornton 4,769 #9 Posted May 3, 2021 I can see what it cuts and visualize what it would make but I'm still not sure. I certainly don't have one and I'd suspect that it's a woodworkers creation and not sold as such the way this one is made. Sash/muntin plane?

You are getting the idea of it. Edited May 3, 2021 by formariz

formariz 11,987 #13 Posted May 3, 2021 It’s a hard one. Unless one is extremely familiar with traditional woodworking methods it’s hard to find anyone that knows about them. Even knowledgeable people on the subject rarely know about them. Also if one never did that type of work it’s hard to figure out what it would do. The same way that it is a good exercise in tool control while using one , it’s a good mental exercise trying to figure out it’s function. 1
