kpinnc 12,078 #1 Posted May 2, 2021 Figured I better start a thread on this one. I'm building two backup mowers. My zero turn isn't a new one, and I have too much grass to let it go for more than a week if something breaks on it. So this tractor will carry the 48, and I've got a 5XX-H that is halfway through a heart transplant that will carry the 60. In a real pinch, I can put the 60 on my 520-H, but I'm a little leary of pushing the Onan that hard. Anyway, here is the weekend's progress: 5

kpinnc 12,078 #3 Posted May 2, 2021 I'd like to get a long 1965+ hood for it, but I'm just gonna use what I can find I guess. The frame is a 74, the tranny is a 82, and the front axle and wheels are from a JD 110. I'm using a Vanguard 14hp from a previous build. We'll see how it turns out. 2
Lee1977 6,663 #4 Posted May 2, 2021 Good to see you back building Wheel Horses. I was Don1977 back then. My computer went south when the board changed locations a couple of times. 2

kpinnc 12,078 #9 Posted May 3, 2021 Ebinmaine- Yep, stove black but gonna use a chrome guard from a Onan that self detonated with a previous owner. WHX24- I was just about to send you a message. Oh well the search continues...

I can make a little extention at the hinge.
Lee1977 6,663 #12 Posted May 3, 2021 I had another air filter setup that worked better when I was still running the 16 HP. I used a tall Kohler filter and a couple of 1/4" Aluminum plates. It cleared the hood, I just never clanged it when I installed the 18. 4

Lee1977 6,663 #14 Posted May 3, 2021 I don't think height will be needed, it's the width of the air breather cover. that is why I have to push the hood to the right to get it closed. Richie cut one side of the breather cover and modified it on the tractor he is working on. Here is a picture in side the aluminum plate breather. 2

Pullstart 62,905 #18 Posted May 5, 2021 Care to share the model of the front axle donor? I’d love more info on the 3 point tractor in your avatar... it looks pretty interesting!

The 3 point tractor (1971 Bronco 14) in my avatar is somewhere here in a couple older threads. Also in the "modifications" picture thread if memory serves. Should still be searchable. I still have the tractor as well.
