krystolo 504 #28 Posted May 14, 2021 So, I tried using the tractor to spin the wheel while I used a wire brush to remove rust, but the wheel would stop with the slightest pressure. I soaked one wheel for 3 days, and 70% of the rust came off, but there is some really stuck on black stuff, maybe fix-a-flat, that is not coming loose. It seems like a consistency that feels slimy on your hands when you feel it. I think the more you add, the more conductive it becomes. Replace? Nope. It gets pretty nasty looking but it keeps on working! The black stuff seems like a byproduct of the solution and flash rust, but I use water and my hands to rub it off and it seems pretty successful. Given that that's on the inside of the wheel and it's a fairly steady surface the easiest way to remove that might very well be to put it on the tractor and let it turn the wheel for you while you're using something like a wire brush preferably driven by a motor like on a drill or body grinder. Same method but using sandpaper would also work just fine but you may see that that stuff comes up the paper pretty quickly whereas it shouldn't do that with a wire brush. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I've been able to remove it with Mineral Spirits. Put it on a rag, wipe it, wait for it to soften, wipe some more, wait, wipe, wait, wipe. It will eventually all come off.
