Spindle and pulley interchangeability?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. i have a 48" side discharge deck, which has needed serious work for a long time. I recently got my hands on a couple of smaller decks (i think they are either 38 or 42") that are beat up, but, have their pullies and spindles intact.

Now - the reason i've put off the rebuild on the 48" deck is that when i started trying to pull it apart, it was clear it wanted a fight, and i didn't. So it has been sitting - but - these other two decks i got for next to nothing so it seems like time to consider reapproaching this - assuming that the pullies are compatible - cause it is pretty clear that the current ones are not coming off in one piece.

While the spindles are interchangeable between 42 & 48" decks, the pulleys are NOT.

yeah i was kind of afraid of that. oh well, the deck prices were good. and i could always just use one of those until i can get some replacement pullies. i'd guess there are several vendors here that have them.

Suede, there's some info on the pulley and spindle interchange in this thread courtesy of Dave.  I ended up buying all new stuff, turns out my spindles were BER (Beyond Economical Repair)

Prepare yourself for 'sticker shock' !  Check with K&B Horse Parts before you order elsewhere.  Make sure to get the right ones!  ( 3/4" bore, or 5/8" bore )
