Gnhuntin 41 #1 Posted April 28, 2021 I bought this about 10 years ago and used it occasionally, mostly as a backup and to mow the dog pen where my zero turn would not fit through the gate. I installed a larger gate on the dog pen and left this outside for a year when the battery died. Time to show it some love. Through the years I purchased 3 new Wheel Horse tractors. A 308-8, then a 414-8 and finally a 312-H Classic. My ex kept the classic. I switched to Kubota for my mowing after owning two Kubota tractors. Starting a little cleanup on the horse. 3

Gnhuntin 41 #6 Posted April 28, 2021 JCM do you have any pics of the dash, shifter area, etc for decal location placement? I'm going to order decals from Redoyour horse.

JCM 9,177 #9 Posted April 28, 2021 Went out to the shop and took these for you, @Gnhuntin hope this helps your refurb. These are as built from WH in 1989. 2
oliver2-44 9,759 #10 Posted April 28, 2021 You can go with the " Classic" decal set or the American flag themed decals that I used on my 1985 312-8 They really make the tractor pop. 1
Gnhuntin 41 #11 Posted April 28, 2021 Thanks for the pictures, had no clue on the location for the caution labels. I like the classic, the American Flag and the ghost flames. I paint outside - will need something to hide the paint imperfections.
Lost Pup 172 #12 Posted May 4, 2021 Great work on the deck. To nice to use.
Gnhuntin 41 #13 Posted May 6, 2021 It will be used but I will keep it in the garage from now on.
Gnhuntin 41 #14 Posted May 6, 2021 I have sandblasted and painted or powder coated every part for the tractor with the exception of the body sheet metal. Here's a tip - take lots and lots of pictures before and during dissasembly - I was a little lax in doing that. It would have saved me time in reassembly and would not have to refer to the parts diagrams as often. Here's where I'm at so far. 5

Gnhuntin 41 #16 Posted May 6, 2021 Does anyone know of an alternative part # or similar part that will replace the breather hose on my M12? Looks like the Kohler part is discontinued.
peter lena 8,634 #17 Posted May 6, 2021 @Gnhuntin , good looking work there , might give you a suggestion that I have incorporated in my 3 horses , is washering in the pto lever , to tighten it up and make it very solid and smooth , note the horizontal stack of washers under the battery ground rail ? that was the sloppy pto lever action . use teflon and steel washers and dielectric grease for super smooth action . also added a 2 bolt flange bearing on steering shaft , and a 4 ga cable from that ground rail to the lower engine corner for grounding issues , also wired my battery tender plug in port to the choke cable for easy operation . good opportunity to add on when building , pete
Gnhuntin 41 #18 Posted May 7, 2021 Good ideas Pete, drilled the holes to mount the flange bearing. Will take the slack out of the pto lever when I put it together.
kpinnc 12,088 #19 Posted May 8, 2021 Ok, I think there is a rule somewhere here that prohibits showing machinery like that. We old farts that feel lucky to have a drill press are offended at the sight of a mill...
tunahead72 2,424 #20 Posted May 8, 2021 You have a drill press?!? Lucky!
Gnhuntin 41 #21 Posted May 10, 2021 The dipstick tube for the transmission broke when I tried to remove it for painting. I found the outside diameter is the same as 1/2" pvc. the inside diameter of the original tube is 5/8 (.625) and the pvc electrical conduit I had was .600 I bored out the end to .625 in the lathe but you could use a drill bit. The charts show pvc should be .622 id. Maybe the electrical is different, it's what I had on hand so I went with it. I used a heat gun to soften the broken piece in the threads of the trans and removed it with a curved pick. The threads in the trans are 1/2 npt. I used this coupling and a piece of 1/2 pvc conduit and sized the assembly to match the original length. 1
