Thank you as always, dominator Yes all the 300, 400. and 500 had a plastic steering shaft cover. As to whether they were attached it think depends on the year, and the model. My 312-8 is not attached, the problem is down at the support bushing the bushing and the hole gets worn out. I fixed my with a flange bearing bolted in place. I don't have a 400 series to know if it is the same as my 300. I know my 520-H was completely different but I got it fixed too . 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Skwerl58 729 #3 Posted April 26, 2021 I have a 1987 414-8 and the plastic sleeve floats on the shaft. I am certain in the future I will tear it down and do a flange bearing on the shaft but mine has just a little slop, so I will wait. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
hayshaker 21 #4 Posted April 28, 2021 Did this on a 310-8 that was worn away to nothing, then used copper pipe to rebuild the cover - as it was busted up too. I guess it is pretty hillbillyish, but I am what I am. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
