The 656 project

My 656 isn't the biggest, or prettiest, or most powerful tractor I have, but I'm not sure it isn't the most fun to drive. That little Tecky sounds awesome with the Kemp stack on it. I decided to do a re-paint on it, before I tear into the C-125 A. It's not going anywhere. I think the previous owner of the 656, took the seat, wheels and tires off, and simply sprayed everything that was left, with red primer. I don't know if he did this to cover up rust, or to keep it from rusting more, but I think once I get started on it, I will find a LOT of rust. This is not going to be a total tear down and strip, but rather a quick spray the best I can do, with it mostly being whole. This is also not going to be your typical Wheel Horse colors. I have something else in mind. It won't be anything crazy, like Arcticat Purple, or Fighting Illini colors, or rainbow. No flames shooting up the side,  but it won't be red either. I think it will look nice. I have Terry conjuring up some custom decals. We'll just have to see how it goes.

That’s a good machine you got there. The white rims are a good accent. Not going red though, this should be interesting.

Gregor, you are scaring me.  I think that horse looks great the way it is.  Most of the craziness come from those guys in Minnesota and Wisconsin and Connecticut.    Have you been eating a lot of cheese and sausage lately??  

   I know what you mean about the short frame square hoods, I have 2.  I'm sure, if Terry is involved, it is going to look great.

I agree with @stevasaurus I think it looks cool in primer too. You can replace all the bolts with shiny ones and have a Wisconsiny rebuild!

I like the way it looks also. Kind-of gotten use to it, but I thought I would try something different. Haven't seen another one done this way, so maybe it's not such a good idea after all. We'll just have to wait and see.

 

P.S. Obviously it was suppose to say "The 656 Project".  I don't know how to fix that.

I have 1 stuck hub, that's completely dry, and a stuck hitch pin in the trans. They are staying stuck! Not going through that again. Did you know, if you turn the trans upside down, and go in the house for a minute, all the oil will run out the shifter hole. Yep, it will !

I may have to try that sometime, but it would be something else I would have to find a space for.

 

Submerging some parts, may not always be so great. I had these wheels chemically stripped weeks ago, and they are still seeping some kind of fluid out from the inside.

the only chemical if you will, is washing soda with the e-tank.  I understand the space constraint, just move the dishwasher out on the deck to free up to little more room

Hope I don't step on anyone's toes with this statement, but,  I like to break all the red on these tractors a bit. I think a black engine is that little bit of difference.

Wholeheartedly agreed.

 

Note that the engines Trina and I have painted are not red...

Thursday Apr. 29. That was record time ! I added a couple of pieces so it was 11. $140.  I am not a body and fender man, but I am going  to attempt a little bondo work on the fender pan, and dash tower. The pieces come back perfectly clean, and ready for paint, after w wipe down with paint thinner.
