How Do You Remove Solid Front Wheel Bushings?

That's my question. I have these little 4" rims that have solid bushings. How can they be removed without damage?

I drove the ones on my L107 out with a brass drift from the opposite side.

Thanks. My brass drift pin is apparently taking a vacation without me and is nowhere to be found. My steel pin is leaving marks. So as soon as the brass one comes home, I'll give it a couple of whacks.

Bob, can you use a wooden dowel or something similar or maybe drop a piece of 3/4” flat, cut to length thru the axle hole and rest your punch on it.

If you are not going to reuse them use whatever you have to knock them out.

Rarely ever use a brass drift. maybe a piece of old 1/2 steel rod.

The bushings are good and I want to reuse them. Just need them out to sand blast the rims.

Well, if you live long enough, you still can learn something new. I did today. I did not know that these little rims were two-piece.

Well, that will make the removal of the bushings easier.

 

I should have suspected something when these rims had bolts through them.

I just assumed that the bolts were "place holders" and that the holes were to allow the rims to be mounted to a hub on another application.

 

Well, I damaged that gasket that went between them, so if they are not available, I can make a couple.

 

Sure did make the tire removal easy.

HAHAHA...

That's actually funny Steve because when I started banging on the bushing with my oak dowel and the 1/2 half of the rim fell and hit the floor, my first though was "oh sh*t", I've really done it now.

I'm working on a RR-67 REO Lawn Skiff. I've got some gasket material that I can use.
