Does a K-301 have balance gears? Just planning ahead for the C-125.

Mine did have them and I took them out when I rebuilt it.

There are threads on here about the pros and cons of these things.

I was just not at all confident I could time them up accurately without the dealership tools.

Mine seems to run just fine without them.

When you left them out, was it simply a matter of omitting them? Re-install cam, valves lifters, everything else as usual? No special parts to buy to put in their place? Nothing else needed?

Just omitted them Greg,  removed every part for the strip down and just did not include any of the balance weight assembly when I refitted the camshaft. Only thing left in place were the stub shafts they spin on.

Some folk have said there is a difference and others say there is little to none between having them and not. I just feel the possibility of one going bang is not worth the effort or the risk.

I mounted mine on solid engine mounts too and that is a definite improvement.

1980 C-125 here and an older C-120. I kept the gears - bearings were good. Timing was a matter of watching the right installers and their youtube videos. Yes, absolutely, those hard mounts made the tractor a much better machine. The originals were just spent. As for smoothness differences, the 125 at full snort is perfectly fine and the 120 will rattle your teeth but it's a matter of the seat cushioning. The 120's seat is a PO's brick. The 125's is from Northern Tool.
