Is This gasket going to work or should I just make one? 1 hour ago, lynnmor said: This thread should help with your PTO spring problem, but first make that opened loop look like the opposite end. thanks, I will check that out. I was wondering if it was supposed to be hooked on only one side. Andrew
WheelHorse520H 708 #177 Posted August 9, 2021 Still waiting for the Welch plug and starter part but I decided to put some of the tins back on, I got the rear one that goes over the cylinder head, both side panels (the belt guard and the one under the hydraulic lift lever) and I got the hood off the matt on the floor and bolted back on so I can welcome a new 607 tomorrow.

Is that a 690727 for a Briggs & Stratton? Was is in a factory package with that part number on it? They used a Nikki carburetor and some on other forums said that they fit our carburetors. I have no first hand knowledge of that number. All I can say is that you need a 3/8" diameter aluminum welch plug.

I bought 2 just in case I messed up. So I can at least return 1 of them. I will try the correct P/N this time (Hopefully with a better result).

Helping you search some more,I got conflicting information on the size of the 290727, so even it might not be right. Years ago we could just walk into a good auto parts store and find what we need, there may be something in your area if you are lucky. Some of the cheap rebuild kits on eBay have the plugs, some do not.

Some of the cheap rebuild kits on eBay have the plugs, some do not. I’ll call the local small engine shop tomorrow and see if they have any. I’ll also browse online. Also, I think I got the PTO spring set back up correctly, we’ll see when it’s all back together. Is the gasket in post 176 any hood or should I make one? Thanks, Andrew Edited August 9, 2021 by WheelHorse520H

WheelHorse520H 708 #188 Posted August 18, 2021 Got a Welch plug today. Called a couple of small engine shops and neither of them had one but the second one I called said to try Napa. Not a bad idea so I did. They had one and since it wasn’t in their inventory list I got it free. The folks down there are wicked nice. Gonna put it in now.
WheelHorse520H 708 #189 Posted August 18, 2021 Got the Welch plug in, and carb mounted as well as the intake, exhaust, and some shrouds but forgot where this piece goes seems to be the only thing not in my photos can you guys direct me as to where it might go. I said the other day to myself “oh that’s where it goes, don’t forget to put it there” naturally I forgot because I said not to. Thanks.
Handy Don 12,237 #190 Posted August 18, 2021 (edited) Does that spacer go between the engine and the muffler mounting bracket? What year is your Beetle? Edited August 18, 2021 by Handy Don

Now that @Handy Don mentioned it, I believe it was behind the mount for the muffler where the engine block is. I believe it just fell out when I took the muffler off. Not certain though. Oh, I got all worried thinking you knew it came from a gauge. I thought it went behind the two screws on the back of the dash that hold the lights on. But the screws are too far apart. Horse Newbie 7,075 #200 Posted August 19, 2021 (edited) Best of my recollection, my 1994 520H was like this in the area of the PTO engagement linkage... 1. Engine block. 2. muffler mounting bracket 3. PTO linkage bracket/ no spacer such as I see in your pic. Edited August 19, 2021 by Horse Newbie
