ebinmaine 68,765 #1 Posted April 23, 2021 While turning the flywheel by hand on my Kohler twin k582 I was noticing a scraping sound. I removed an old acorn shell but the sound remained so I looked at the magnets and one of them is completely free. Can anyone offer tips for removing this beast of a flywheel? Best to use a puller of some sort? Heat or no heat? Where to pry on it? Following that, what can I use to hold the magnet or magnets in place?

If you stand in front of the flywheel and reach into the left hand side there's plenty of space in there that you can see the edge and feel the magnets.

pfrederi 17,961 #8 Posted April 23, 2021 Manuals can be helpful Watch out for the set screw that isn't something I have seen on singles or smaller Twins. NO PRYING puller only

squonk 41,614 #15 Posted April 23, 2021 Tap those threads in the holes. Harmonic balancer puller and Git er Done! (Make sure The Paint Dept is there to catch it when it pops so it doesn't drop on your tootsies! )

Actually several in different sizes. If I use just the center piece of that without the Jaws would that be like a harmonic balancer puller?

As long as you attach 2 bolts to those flywheel holes and pull from them yes.
