48 inch deck drive pulley

Recommended Posts

Charbs152

hello all,

i recently restored my 48 inch deck and after looking at the manual, it seems like my deck has the wrong pulley on it.   It should have part# 106073 which is bigger on the top and smaller on the bottom.

as you can see, the pulley i have is the opposite....no i did not install it upside down, it only fits one way and thats also the way it was when i got it.

Does anyone have any info on this or know where i can buy the correct pulley size?

Wrong center pulley for a 48" deck. The pulley you have is for a 42" deck.

48" deck center pulley is same OD...top and bottom.

The schematics are confusing on these as ONE schematic was used for BOTH the 42 & 48 Decks...

Maybe this Excel SS will help:

I've matched your .pdf of the pulleys to my Excel SS and they DO match to same numbers.  What I'm sayin' is The Center pulley you have on the deck in the pics is NOT pulley # 106073.  It is, in fact, a pulley a 42" deck center pulley.

Check the diameter of the spindle at the top.  If it's 3/4" you need a 106073, if it's 5/8" you need a 110147.  Both have equal diameter pulleys top and bottom, but the 3/4" is keyed and the 5/8" is not.  The parts list diagram shows the 42" pulley which has a smaller diameter pulley on bottom to match the two smaller single pulleys on the outer spindles.  The 48" deck outer spindles have larger pulleys hence the larger lower pulley on the center spindle to match.

K&H Horse Parts helped me on a deck rebuild, he may have a good used one.

As biger77 stated, if top of shaft is 3/4" dia, center pulley is #106073.  If shaft is 5/8...get pulley 110147.

These are the best prices I can find for NEW...  Wheelhorse club guys should find good used one for you.

NEW 110147 is about $60.  106073 is over $100

I am pretty sure my center shaft is the smaller 5/8 as seen here..

A-Z Tractor has them for $38

Make sure on that 5/8" shaft.  Check the nut size, it should be 15/16" if it's a 5/8" shaft.  The 05-48MS01 originally had the 3/4" shaft but the PO could have replaced the spindle with the one that has the 5/8" shaft.  BTW the double pulley originally on the deck would have made the blades rotate faster than designed but at a higher load.

They are 5/8.  I did a restoration on it this winter here:

Thanks for the info!
