PTO brake for 400/500 series

Looking for a PTO brake. I have 2 that are worn to the rivets. Thanks

Part #94-6652

Doesn't someone refurbish these? 

I put a want ad in already.

I just got one for my C-175 from Brian at K & B Horse Parts, one of the vendors here.

 

He produces HIGH QUALITY repop parts!  And his refurbished used parts are nearly indistinguishable from new!

I know it's non OSHA and non lawyer approved,but I remove mine when worn out.I'm the only operator of my equipment and I'm so old and slow that the attachment has long stopped spinning by the time I get off the tractor.I'm living proof that it is hell to get old.

I don't adjust mine to the 0.035 WH specs,  I leave the gap much larger, like 0.050 or so.  I think of it only as a 'keeper' to prevent the bell from moving out too far on the shaft because there's nothing else holding it on there.  Well, except for the PTO hoop.

Thanks guys.   I only think of it when I use one of my tractors without the deck attached as the pto bell spins a long time after I shut it down.  Is there really any harm in this? And I'm with @Pollack Pete, I'm not saying it has to be osha approved, rather, is it going to hurt the tractor?

No.  In fact, if the brake actually DID hold the bell from spinning with no attachment installed then the inner roller bearing would get more wear.  If you think about how that PTO works, that inner roller bearing is not spinning when the PTO is engaged, the only time that bearing spins is when the engine is running and the PTO pulley is NOT spinning.  Letting the PTO spin free when not using attachment is a GOOD thing IMO.  The outer bearing is a different story though... that one gets heavy use whenever the PTO is engaged.  When not engaged but spinning, it rolls but there's no real load on it.  It just spins.  With PTO engaged, there's load on the outer bearing.

 

That little brake really doesn't do much in reality.  The tension of the attachments generally stops the PTO spinning faster than that little brake shoe could.

Buy a small chunk of brake lining from McMaster and some rivets not hard to do it yourself

I agree that Brian's pto disc's and brake arm and pad are top quality just purchased two with that tractor parts stimulus  cash....

 

Now it would  be great if we could  send him like a "core" of the used disc or pto arm instead of adding them to our to repair later pile....

@pfrederi Anyone know the measurements of the liner? I'm looking at Mcmaster and going to order my own. I have several that I can repair. (Hopefully!)

I use left over pieces from my brake lining material  The material is 3/16" thick, 1-1/2" wide.  I cut to length and glue them on with JB Weld.

Considering that there is not much load for the brake to stop, it doesn't take much to hold it. So the short answer is, it holds very well.
