An older 6 speed however (both had 3 forward gears+reverse+hi/low.. but nomenclature changed) will find you with limited slip in the differential. kpinnc 12,005 #7 Posted May 4, 2021 (edited) When in doubt on 6 or 8 or whatever it says on the hood, AND provided you have 1.125 axles- Raise both rear wheels so they can spin freely. Roll either rear tire by hand. If the opposite wheel spins the opposite direction, it is NOT limited slip with the weaker diff. I got this at an auction yesterday..i know it needs some work but was interested to know how well she would do as a puller. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. It aerates the oil . Most 3 speed Unidrives will handle up to 35 hp and the 8 speed with the 1-1/8 inch axle and 8 pinion differentials will handle 55 hp before thing start to break. I have pulled every Unidrive and even my RJ-35 with shive belt and never had a problem. My diesel puller uses a 1963 3 speed with heavy duty 1 inch hubs. Thanks The Unidrive in this model Wheel Horse used a spider gear type differential and would be very costly to replace (and hard to find) if broken. The axles were strong but unless you knew the history of the transmission ........... If I remember right there was a way to swap out a later 8 pinion.
