Ifixoldjunk 778 #1 Posted April 9, 2021 Hi y’all! I’ve been in the process of fixing up a wheel horse 310-8. The original tires are pretty dry rotted and I’ve been thinking about running AG tires. My only issue is the original rear tires were 22x7.50-12 while I can only find 23x8.50-12s. Do you think I could get away with the larger tires and chains? I mostly use the tractor for the snowblower so chains are a must. I don’t want to put the new tires on and not have room for my chains. Thanks for any help✌️
oliver2-44 9,761 #2 Posted April 9, 2021 (edited) You should be able to run 23x8.50-12 or 23x9.50x12 with chains. The 9.5 are 1" wider and will look good and beefy with you front ags. Nice old Bolens ya got there. Edited April 9, 2021 by oliver2-44
WHX?? 48,828 #3 Posted April 9, 2021 (edited) I didn't know they made a 9.5 Jim. Always just thought 8.50 and 10.5 Edited April 9, 2021 by WHX24

Thanks, if that’s the case I’ll probably go ahead with the 9.50, I want all the traction I can get.👍
Ed Kennell 38,227 #5 Posted April 9, 2021 to the If you plan to use the tractor mainly for snow blowing with chains, I would never buy ag tires. The turf tire will keep more of the chains in contact with the ground than the ag tire resulting in much better traction. 1

I didn’t think about that, maybe I’ll go with newer turfs or ATV tires.🤔

Achto 27,606 #8 Posted April 9, 2021 I have been eye balling these for my snow plow tractor. I have read some good reviews on their traction on snow and ice, even with out chains. https://www.millertire.com/23x8-50r12-carlisle-versa-turf-compact-radial-tractor-tire-6-ply/
pfrederi 17,741 #9 Posted April 9, 2021 310-8 were made for a few years and changes may have been made...but my 310-8 came with the 22 7.50x12 tires. The wheels were only 5" across not the 7 inch used on most horses . you may find it difficult to mount fatter tires on then and the tires will look distorted. Before buying tires i wuld measure my rims....If you need new rims be sure to f=get them with 1-3/8 in backspace. most garden tractors used 2-3/8 and you would definitely have clearance issues

That reminds me I need to make another trip to wander the tire yard. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SET-OF-TWO-Carlisle-Turf-Master-23-9-50-12-4Ply-Lawn-Turf-Tires-511-406/282425285603

OldWorkHorse 3,045 #14 Posted April 11, 2021 (edited) I run AGs on my 314-8, 23x10.5-12 with chains they fit fine other then once in a blue moon a chain would just barly rub on the braket the fuel tank sits in so I ended up putting 2 inch spacers on her to stop the rub. Left tire in photo spaced right tire stock. Edited April 11, 2021 by OldWorkHorse
