Not cranking over

Recommended Posts

WheelHorseC101

So I mowed my front yard this morning and it started fine and I mowed for 15 minutes then I parked it for about a hour and I went to crank the key over and nothing. I can hear my fuel pump running but it won’t do nothing when I I turn the key

PTO lever all the way off?

Don't ask why I’d ask... :hide:

Hate to ask...is PTO disengaged... Has happened to most of us at one time or another.  Run a jumper battery + to starter

Yes it’s disengaged. I’ll try that

It works that way but won’t start. I think the starter is going out on it

Like when I turn the key it isn’t doing anything. I tested the battery with a multi meter and is around 12 volts

Before you go out buying the expensive components do some basic upkeep.

You sure the PTO lever is off?  My 14-8 plays games with me sometimes - the PTO lever is all the way back, but the safety switch is not made.  Cycling the lever usually 'fixes' the issue.

The starter is working from your video, something don't sound right to me. Is the motor turning over? Did you check fuses?

I looked at the video again, the starter is working properly, from what I hear the motor is not turning over. You may have stripped the gear off or the gear is not engaging. You sure the motor isn't stuck?

Like Darb said, with different words:

Stuck bendix on the starter? (rebuild starter)

Chipped tooth on the flywheel?  (turn motor by hand and see if it starts when the starter bendix contacts a different part of the flywheel)
