ebinmaine 67,498 #126 Posted September 6, 2021 Today we're installing the breather and carb. We had to rob the air cleaner from her Pony tractor to use on Millie. I've placed an ad looking for one. Here's The Paint Department's redecoration of said air cleaner: 5
Handy Don 12,230 #127 Posted September 6, 2021 Excellent work by the Paint Department!

ebinmaine 67,498 #129 Posted September 9, 2021 Well something wasn't setting quite right with the carb the other night. I took it off and checked the carb over. Reinstalled. No progress. It WANTS to run. Starts instantly. It hunts and pecks all over the place. If I hold the throttle open a touch it smooths right out. Maybe an adjustment? Not sure. We'll bring it to @JCM Jim's place and if someone wants to mess with it maybe it'll run on its own. It's worth noting that when I got the tractor that had this engine from @Stepney there was no air cleaner so it's likely someone was attempting to fix it already. I'd like very much to learn what's going on with this carb. Might be a candidate for a small Kohler carburetor.....
Pullstart 62,878 #130 Posted September 10, 2021 could it be a governor setting EB?
ebinmaine 67,498 #131 Posted September 10, 2021 2 minutes ago, pullstart said: could it be a governor setting EB? Absolutely. I tried to zero it out the only way I know how and I don't think it made any difference but that doesn't mean I did it right. Also, I don't know where the springs and linkages are supposed to be connected and I'm only assuming that whatever previous owner hadn't changed anything. I did find an old post on another website where someone had changed the linkage and the length wasn't right. At some point I need to figure out how to measure the proper length of the link that goes from the governor arm to the throttle plate.
ebinmaine 67,498 #132 Posted October 26, 2021 We got back to Millie for a bit tonight. I'd ordered a 2-1/2" od engine pulley in an effort to slow her down some. Stock size is 2" so it'll be a hair faster but much more manageable. Trina changed the size of the spacers on the lower steering shaft hoping to tighten it up some. Made a little difference. The pillow block will need to be bored and bushed because the upper steering shaft slides side to side but not fore and aft. Next will be to get a shorter belt on there, weld up the belt guard and see how it goes. It starts and drives ok... At best.

What engine is that? I have an HH100 that I could put up pics of the governor linkages if you need it.

Rusty Tinsnips 477 #140 Posted October 28, 2021 Note the screw at the bottom going through the block flange area. Looks like some kind of limiter like the low idle stop screw on the carb.

On the one I just worked on, it was off by about 5-7º and once fixed, the hunting just stopped. Governor appears ok and the linkages are on correctly. @Handy Don Interestingly enough the carb is much less angry now. Not sure why. Perhaps setting with good clean NON E gas?? It actually considers idling down now... Trina changed out the engine drive pulley for a smaller more reasonable one (2.5"). The old pulley was 4". Too large for a working tractor for us with the rough terrain. I welded the end of the belt guard back together after having cut it to make room for the 4" pulley. Trina used J. B. Weld to fill a hole I couldn't get with the Lincoln tombstone stick welder, then tossed some paint on the engine and belt guard. Next up I'll be testing the engine's charging system then adding mid and rear hitches for Wheelhorse implements. 2

ebinmaine 67,498 #148 Posted December 12, 2021 Trina painted the implement control handle/lever and a rear hitch for Millie today. One step closer to it being a plow tractor for her. 3
ebinmaine 67,498 #149 Posted December 19, 2021 Trina got the hitch, lift lever and wheel weights installed today. We don't have chains to fit this tractor. (Thought I did but they're too short. ) Other than that it's ready to plow snow. 1
