Hang on... is this the original engine?

Checking over Rosie tonight and I see that the engine attachments don’t quite match up. Suspect a swap at some point in her life. Opinions?

There should be a J bolt through there holding it down to the frame.

Should there be J bolts all around, or just on one side?

Here’s the other side.

On my charger 12 they used two J bolts on the side that overhangs the frame and two regular bolts on the other side. I didn’t even think about the fact that they would put a bolt up through the bottom of the frame into a threaded hole in the bottom of the engine but that makes sense.

There should be two  bolts inside the right frame rail  into two tapped holes in the pan.

Learned that the hard way! Always thought just 2 bolts held the engines on my horses... till I tried winching a engine off after removing the 2 bolts you can see and the frame still lifting with the motor! That's how I found the 2 hidden bolts!

The engine has the correct spec number and Kohler built it in 1977.

The tractor was scheduled to be built 008165 - Build date 1977 7066 March 07 Monday

I didn't notice that offset with the '77 120 until I went to reinstall the engine and scratched my head for a while. It doesn't fit any other way. Call it a big block and be happy with it :)

I did the same thing when I got my first horse. It looked a little odd because I thought once It wasnt bolted down. I have even drilled holes now in oil pans and threaded the holes just for this purpose.

HAHA!  I just thought it was odd that it looks like it doesn't belong there.

I'm thrilled with her! Just love her to pieces.  Well, hopefully not to pieces. LOL

It's okay if you love it to pieces as long as you put most of them back...

My skills, are still... er... "developing" in that area, so big pieces for now.  Easy pieces.  Like a toddler puzzle.

@krystoloLooks like maybe you should put in a want ad for the top engine tin to help with keeping the head cool. Unless you just temporarily removed it.

Dumb question... what is that?

ohhh! Is see! A little cap over the fins.  So that helps keep it cool?

The whole top of the engine in the picture just above this should be covered with a piece of sheet metal

If you don't have one on there it would be a great idea to procure one ASAP from either one of our members or a to z in Pennsylvania

WHX??

Some one swapped the head out. It should have what we call a high boss head meaning where the head bolts are then even with the top of the fins. So the head tin goes  like this. Last pics is a low boss head with all sorts of PO goofyness goin on.
