acc7484 52 #1 Posted March 31, 2021 Hello All, My recent purchase of a 520H has been nothing but one issue after the other. The PO claimed he replaced the Axle seals. So I removed the hubs to inspect. The thrust washers were very worn the seal did not look much better. I replaced the seals with SKF 11124. They were not correct for this application, oil was bleeding all over. After a little research I found the correct seals and thrust washers. So one side is fine the other is still leaking. Did I miss something? I taped up the axles so as not to cut the seal when sliding them on. The correct seals are 1/2 inch wide. with a duel lip. Is there a special procedure for this? If the axle has excess up/down, side to side movement this would indicate that the bearing is bad. I had an issues with repop seal manufactures. You are better off getting those seals away from EBAy repops. I use https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/shop-now/ good quality there as well as a few others. Also, you can tap the seal in a little deeper and that will cause it to run on a different area of the shaft. Always use the tape. I don't spiral wrap the shaft, I put a long piece over the key area, letting it hang over the end of the axle. Sorry I missed this first time around, I usually suggest turning the hub around and using that as a ' slide hammer ' to tap the seal into place. But you got it so all is well.
