Yup.  We've gotten similar phone calls about Amazon orders.  Somewhere along the line, the recording directs you to a web site.

Last time we got one, we called Amazon to check on our order - turns out, they confirmed the phone call scam.

I have been getting tons of robo calls

Lately and they are starting to get a little irritating. If They are not on my call list

I don't answer.

I got a call twice from someone who said they were with the Social Security Admin.  There has been a report that that your number has been linked to a criminal act and you should return the call for more info. Right go jump off a pier with cinder block tied to you.I had a jerk with a robo call from the IRS say I would be arrested if I didn't respond.  I have a trick for all of those calls and more. I have a dog squeeze toy shaped like a pig. light squeeze and oink.  Hard abrupt squeeze and it will make the jerk on the other end go, what did you say for the rest of day.

Got one this morning from Paypal saying a charge has been sent, if disputed call this certain number. Of course when I checked my activity that payment wasn't listed.

These scams come a lot lately.

I had one about a package being confiscated by border security because it contained "drugs" and or "illegal items" and if I contacted them with a fee it would be released... they will legit try anything, even worse is I ignore the robo calls and I get spam text now 🤦‍♂️ can never win. Thx for the heads up about this one too!

Just to be clear, the message wasn't a phone call, it was a text message.  When I got home my package was on the porch.

If I answer a spam phone call I don't hang up, I just lay the phone aside, preferably next to a radio or TV, then hang up later so the spammer has one less chance to annoy another person.

Easy, if I knew your number just replace my caller id with your number.

Had I hit the apply button, my caller Id would have shown the origin of the incoming call having come from, see image.

Sample of my caller Id filters and how each call is directed.

CallerID Filtering is a tool that let you create incoming routing rules according to incoming CallerID number. You can apply different rules to some or all of your DID(s) numbers. You can create as many filters as you want. Each filter you create can filter according to one the following criterias and change the routing if there's a match.

- Anonymous CallerID
- Invalid North American CallerID (NPANXXXXXX)
- Custom CallerID Number of your choice

Some usage scenarios

- An annoying telemarketing firm has been calling your number. You can block that specific number and configure your filter to play the following recording to this CallerID "That number is no longer in service, please hang-up and try again" followed by a busy tone.

- Your business DID is configured to route to your receptionist SIP phone. You would like to receive the calls directly on your Cell Phone when the CallerID matches one of your important client. Simply create a forwarding entry with your cellphone, then create a CallerID Filtering rule with the CallerID of your client and select your Cell Phone forwarding entry as the routing.

- You have a local number with the 514 area code and do not want Callers from this area code to dial your toll-free number. When this happens and you want to playback a message to those callers indicating the local number, you can create a Filter with 514* and redirect routing to a pre-recorded message you have uploaded to the system.

Just to clear this up a little bit, one has to use a PBX to do that?  I don't think Joe Average can do it as easily?  I know the scammers are organized crime and have the resources that Joe doesn't.

I'm not using a PBX, all of these features are configurable via my voip.ms customer portal.

I've been living in Manitoba for the past 15 years and have a British Columbia telephone number, a local call for family and friends we left behind. Could have obtained a number anywhere in Canada or the USA and most any country or city in the world.

Had I chosen a London number the call would be a local one for the residence and given my company a UK appearance.  But the differences between our time zones would have been a PITA.

As you an see from the rates the criminal do not have to have great financial resources to disrupt your peace and tranquility.

If it's a real person I  just hang up on the men. If it's a woman I  just softly say "What are you wearing". They hang up on me...

On the phone calls, just state that you are driving and need a phone number to call back when you’re stopped safely.  They don’t like that.

I learned this from a friend.  It’s pretty entertaining.  I used to get pretty flustered and start screaming and yelling at em then BANG my flip phone shut.  It sure feels good to hang up on jerks with that flip action!
