Oldskool 6,644 #26 Posted April 11, 2021 Looking good. That will be a nice multi use tool. Is it fixed solid or does it pivot?

Stormin 9,981 #28 Posted April 11, 2021 (edited) Your doing well Eric. Only thing I would do different would be to make it swing. You could then pick something up at the side, then swing it round above a trailer behind. Edited April 11, 2021 by Stormin 2

It was/is going to be 99% for lifting the trailer bed full of materials to dumping height. I figured the needed capacity at 600 lb. Bought a winch that can double that. And of course over-engineered the rest. As @OldWorkHorse Steve and I were mocking it up we realized how very heavy duty it would be. He came up with a plan to add jack stands of a sort to the back as well. The limiting factor will be the weight of the tractor and the 1200 lb winch rating. Later if desired I can easily swap out the winch. This is a machine I'll hopefully have for many years and multiple tractors/trucks. Having a pivot/swing point is a great idea. How would you go about making that happen?
SylvanLakeWH 25,557 #30 Posted April 11, 2021 Easiest would be something like this: But you’ve got square stock...

SylvanLakeWH 25,557 #32 Posted April 11, 2021 (edited) Could cut vertical, weld inside tube with larger “washer” on each square tube “side” and the whole vertical could pivot on tube with washers as base. Tube would be hidden... Drill some holes for pins to hold arm at at 90 / 45 / 0 degrees etc. or can use to swing... Oldskool 6,644 #33 Posted April 11, 2021 The easiest is to find a pipe that will fit in you square stock snug but still turn. Attach that to your hitch and slide your boom over it.
Oldskool 6,644 #34 Posted April 11, 2021 Look up this lift.

Stormin 9,981 #36 Posted April 11, 2021 If you do as suggested, add a grease nipple, you call them zerks I think. Be easier for Trina to swing it.

ranger 1,750 #42 Posted April 17, 2021 Coming along nicely! If you wanted a swivelling boom, how about adding the rear hub assembly from a front wheel drive car. Some have a flange to attach to the suspension arm, plus the wheel mounting flange, it should be quite simple to fit between the base and the upright? ranger 1,750 #45 Posted April 17, 2021 If the two plates will be in face to face contact, on the top one cut a shallow, spiral ‘scroll’ with an angle grinder, and fit a grease nipple/ zerk. This will ensure grease is spread over the whole area when you grease it. Doug. 2

ebinmaine 67,485 #47 Posted April 19, 2021 Been a busy weekend doing things around the house and yard. I did manage to squeeze in a bit of time to weld the hitch extension to the crane base. The small topside welds should clean up ok. The bottom side longer welds aren't done. Ran out of sunlight.

Handy Don 12,217 #50 Posted April 19, 2021 The idea of a swing is enticing but I'd wonder how easy it is to tip a tractor, even one as solid as the Cinnamon. (The swinging hitch in the image was attached to an ENTIRE PICKUP TRUCK!)
