312-8, having problems getting Hi-Low to work

I made one pass in the low side when I was tilling, then I switch it into a higher gear to back it up for another pass it wouldn't go into either high or low. I can see were the shifter goes down into the transmission and there is a roll pin about ready to fall out. I tried to get it back in the hole on the shaft coming out of the transmission but can't find the hole. Has anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you

if i remember right the lever will drop to far down with out the pin in.the lever needs to be lifted a bit to get the hole to line up. try sticking a nail through the back side to help line up the holes then stick the pin in the front side.
