Mower deck stand

Recommended Posts

Jeff-C175

I'm looking for ideas.

When it comes time to wrassle with mower decks to do maintenance on them as I am pushing 70 I'm finding it more and more difficult to move the damn things around.

Planning on knocking together some 2x4s to fashion some sort of a stand that I can put the deck on near vertically in order to easily access both sides to work on it.

I'll probably put a set of wheels on it too for easy moving around and storing vertically... should take up less room.

I have a few ideas of my own, but the wealth of knowledge here should be tapped before I crank up the wood saws.

Anybody got any ideas?

Maybe something like this only made out of wood.

Does it come pre-bloodied?

There are many products online, both home made and commercial.  Take a look at the Deck Dolly for ideas.

About seven years ago I made this using a Harbor Freight furniture dolly and 2" x 4" lumber. It was sized to fit the 5xi mower decks which are heavier but Classic WH mower decks also fit. That is a RD 42" Classic deck in the photos. The two "cleats" across the bottom catch on the edge of the shell and allow me to lay it over the deck to roll it up.

:text-yeahthat: I like it.  Probably easier on the back than rolling the deck around on the gage wheels.

That's pretty much what I had in mind with the drywall cart. That deck wheel looks like it needs help!

I use my standard 2 wheel hand cart. Blades facing out. Ratchet strap it tight, lay it down or standing...and work away... simple and nothing else to clutter the garage...

The good part of storing a deck upright between cuts is it has a chance to dry out extending the life of it.

I made one from old bed frame angle irons that has no wheels but is about an inch off the floor so it can be moved with a hand truck. very simple construction but gets the deck up off the floor and out of the way.

The pictures are from when I was selling that deck with my C-145. As-Is. The RD that I still have is in better shape. :)

Wow... lots of eye dears!  Thanks guys!

Shallow's idea is almost exactly what I had in mind.  And I have an extra dolly around here somewhere too!  I think this is what I'm going with.

Right now it's hanging from the garage joists by a come-along.

I've got a good first aid kit at the ready at all times.  Two items is all that's needed, super glue and duct tape.  [edit:  ooops!  make that THREE items,  don't forget the zip-ties!]

i use their solid deck dollies for all kinds of stuff - decks, snow blower, engines, gravely attachments - basically if i don't wanna pick it up to move it around - it gets it's own dolly! i have sciatica so have to be careful about my back so the 20 dollar price of admission is perfect!
