ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #1 Posted March 29, 2021 Last September when we went to the Two Cylinder show in Fairview, we drove through the Gloss Mountains. Tasha made the comment on how beautiful it was, so I told her we’d stop on our way home. But by the end of the day the wind was blowing 50 mph and we were tired from walking around the show and eating all the blowing dirt from the tractor pull. So we agreed to come back another time. Been through there a couple times since, but we were in the wrecker with no time to stop. Last night we decided that today would be the day we would go, it was such a beautiful day for it. We got some video of it as well with the new action cam, once I get my video editing software figured out I will have that up on my YouTube feed. 4 3
ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #2 Posted March 29, 2021 Then on our way home we decided to detour about 20 miles north and check out Alabaster Caverns State Park, the actual caverns are closed through the end of March due to hibernating bats, but we were able to check out some of the hiking trails there as well. 1 4

The Caverns are about 60 miles east of us, and the Gloss Mountains are about 100 miles or so east of us

CCW 1,295 #6 Posted March 29, 2021 Only long distance vistas here on the east coast is sitting on the beach and looking across the ocean. Replace that desert with water and waves.

Get up on top of one of the bigger hills and you can see... Far, far away.

Being a flat lander I forget how far the horizon is on top of a mountain..

Here on our side hill the "horizon" is maybe 300, 400 feet? We're treed right in. Top of the hill a mile up the street it's probably 10 miles away. Mountain life is neat.
