pfrederi 17,741 #1 Posted March 24, 2021 Even correctly installed I have had several Kohlers that weep oil from the valve cover. I hate using sealant as it makes disassembly for cleaning very difficult. I recently made a discovery that Kohler must have noted the problem and changed very slightly the design of the cover. I have put a new version on with no sealant and so far after a few hours no seepage. The little ridge around the cover on the sealing surface bites into the gasket and also may provide a bit more resistance to bending, New on the right. 8 1 4 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Stepney 2,325 #4 Posted March 24, 2021 Funny that, I've always just run a sharp file along each edge a time or two, old Mercedes diesel mechanic showed that and it works on just about everything. I got a pretty good snag once grabbing a napkin off the floor.. Huh, well the thing was dry a second ago, how'd it .. uh oh. Hey, boss! You got a roll of tape and a good clean cloth?? Haha.. ouch. Just about stripped right hand little finger. On the topic though. Good friend used to rebuild and service Merc diesels. The large truck sort, not the passenger cars. Apparently an old cure-all for random blown head gaskets was to simply drag a file along the affected area.
