953 nut 55,329 #7 Posted March 23, 2021 I use the one inch long screws, a bit longer than the units but the boot will cover it. 92505A542 is the part number. Shipping will be more than the parts but you are getting a bag of 25.

WHX?? 48,834 #9 Posted March 23, 2021 (edited) I got a but load of 3/4" I can send you a couple for the cost of a stamp. Prolly get them faster from MC tho than USPS these days. Quick story here when I was a green horn here (still am) and not having a clue Bob Parks sent me one to get me out of a jam.... he didn' even know me back then. Never forgot that so now I stock them and try to pay it forward. I buy in bulk now, give half to Dan for all the crap he does for me and tell him to make some friends too. I think next time I order I will get the 1 inchers. The 3/4's seem to break right at the point of the allen end and at the worst time. 'Course this one has only been in use for what 50 some years? Lane Ranger 10,968 #20 Posted March 24, 2021 Here is a broken set screw Lawnman_56. (Rodney Burger ) spent thirty minutes getting out of his 854! He used a pick to slowly turn the broken screw. I buy set screws from McMaster-Carr also but buy them one inch long instead of 3/4. The location of the set screws on top of the tractor tins and the Allen wrench inset are difficult to access. The extra length helps with jam nut and access for big fingers!
squonk 41,164 #21 Posted March 24, 2021 (edited) I'm only replying to get the replies past 20! Unbelievable how much activity a set screw can cause. You'd think it was winter out and we were all stuck inside with a blizzard! Edited March 24, 2021 by squonk 1 3
