My 79-82 Rm 100’s maybe had 4-5” travel on shocks... if you put on after market FOX shocks...now stock 9” on the kx 65... this for kids who weigh nothing... they are twice as fast and way smoother... the suspension technology is light years better...

That little kx 65 would probably beat the old 100’s I raced in every way...

except comfort!  Riding these small frames a couple days in a row, my legs are like fire and buttery noodles at the same time!

The guy is offering to let me borrow the bike for a day to see how I like it!  We’re 45 minutes away from each other and I don’t even know his name! I posted my non-running Raptor for sale yesterday and already have two people lined up to see it.  If it sells, it would nearly be a wash!

The Raptor sold!  It went for less than I anticipated, but the more they shook and rattled things, the more I saw it needed their help!

ok... power bands.  250 vs 125. What do you prefer? My theory is that a 125 will be all I’ll ever need.

125's can be great - but not a good first choice for some ... and also depends on the type of riding you plan to do ... the lack of low end can be an issue if you plan to ride in tight woods and especially if the tight woods includes some nasty hills

250 motocross bike is a lot of bike ... things can happen fast ... lol

a 'tweener' could include a 200 or similar ...

like a KDX200 for example ...

(I have a KDX200) ... the KDX200 is basically a KX125 with a bigger piston and jug ... and a step down in the suspension area ...

docile enough to run all day slowly - but fast enough to win a national enduro

also has wider transmission ratios including a low first gear (that many appreciate)

( Yamaha had a great 2 stroke YZ WR250 that was basically YZ250 with a wide ratio transmission ... one of my fav off road bikes )

two important factors when buying a used bike - condition and condition

ok - maybe three factors ... price also

(at one point I would also add a good dealer close by and that is still a factor - but most parts can be acquired quickly on-line)

I would almost rather have a well maintained bike not high on my list - than a bike that is poorly maintained

a poorly maintained bike will eat hours and money ... and often until the owner finally tires of it and dumps it ..  for whatever

if money is no object - get a new KTM 300 -  but be picky after that when looking at used bikes ... lol ...

pullstart - btw

consider an O-ring chain for the 65 if it does not have one already

they are not cheap - but they will save you money in the long run

and once they 'settle in' - after first few rides (?) - rarely will need another adjustment
