Hess trucks

Recommended Posts

When I was about 7 or 9 in the late 70s I had a Hess tanker truck.

Mine was flattened when I left it in the driveway and I've wanted another ever since.

Recently I found that same type tanker online. 1977.

Has a couple condition minor issues. Missing mirrors and don't know (or care) if the lights work.

While searching for that I also found a  1975 Hess box trailer truck.

Never knew those were made.

I like the grille/nose better on the older one.

I may make up a diorama to display them.

I got a bunch of the Hess trucks. I had a tanker destroyed too but don't remember how. Think I got my first around 1965.

Too Bad they aren't really worth anything except maybe the real old ones. I go to toy auctions and they practically give them away.

Depends who's looking to buy just like anything else collectible.

Fleabay has em for 35 (rarely) all the way to 100/150 for normal production.

Most are just below $100.

Original condition first years can be $2500. Plus.....

Like I said, The old ones are worth $$$ The auctions I go to even with the boxes bring little more than they cost.

My wife found these mini Hess Trucks at the thrift store she worked at. :banana-linedance:

This might date my existence, but I grew up playing with Tonka trucks.  Still real steel, real dirt.  The payloaders moved a many ton back and forth, along with dump trucks in my day!  I have a handful of them in the shop from picking storage units, etc, but nothing surviving from my youth.

Well I out date you by a bit but same thing. Tonka's, Buddy L , Nylint and Structo. A few years back with auctions an E-Bay I acquired a few of my favorite's.

Tonka Backhoe which had the truck body and just the hoe, A Structo clamshell crane. My aunt had this and I played with it every time I was there. I couldn't remember what brand it was so I described it to a collector and he identified it. I found it right away on E-bay. And lastly I was about 4 playing in a sandbox that was right next to the barn in the cool barn thread. I had this hand-me -down dump truck. I remembered it was orange with a faded yellow sticker on the doors. tires had no tread. I was playing with it and it just broke in half! I searched for another one and again with the help of this collector I was able to identify it as a Buddy L and they were noted for the frame breaking. I found a really nice one with small cracks at the breaking point.

I’m one of ya surprised at that!  I’ve flipped three wheelers and four wheelers, jumped off things on a snowboard that are unthinkable today, broke jet skis in half on Lake Michigan, gone fast enough on motorcycles or in cars to make your eyes peel back or feel like flight is within the next 10 mph climbed peaks in another country with unmarked land mines... and the list goes on.  And now we’re talking about digging holes in the back yard and you’re concerned about my safety? :ROTF:
