seuadr 488 #26 Posted March 23, 2021 kinda interesting that there is no fuel pump - if it is like other k161 motors the pump is crank driven. you can get a cheap knockoff for pretty cheap, but, unless you are running into issues i'm not sure it is worth the effort? in my personal opinion, were i in your shoes and looking for a fuel pump, i'd probably get a low pressure electric one, you can get ahold of nice small ones that run at low pressure for fairly cheap. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,055 #27 Posted March 23, 2021 The 653 with Tecumseh engine and 753 with Kohler both used the starter button. Garry
rustyspace 10 #28 Posted March 24, 2021 I'm with you SEUADR, the girl runs fine without a pump, currently. I don't really think I need a glass filter either. Ill run the fuel line, with in line filter, a little neater and let it be. I have found that the '64 on up 8hp Deere 110 used the 90 degree air cleaner set up, remote voltage regulator, no fuel pump and with green paint on the cylinder head, I think it safe to say the motor is not original to my horse. The good news is, a buddy has a 110 parts machine hanging around I may need to go look at again. I have been looking for hours at JD motor ID tags to check other areas on mine but no luck. I would like to think that If doing a motor swap, one would swap a similar motor. Not changing brands all together for ease of the swap. Perhaps it was a k161 and since the k181 is identical the swap happened? Does the Tecumseh use the same starter generator? Same bolt pattern to the frame? Having "?53" decals made may be the way to tell her story.
Pullstart 62,922 #29 Posted March 24, 2021 My 502 “Putt Putt” has no pump. I am running a glass fuel bowl and a close nipple to keep it tight to the fuel tank. It runs great! Well, until the tank is empty that is... Here is a link to some discussion in 2018 about my fuel issues and whatnot while refreshing Putt Putt.

squonk 41,164 #31 Posted March 24, 2021 Some K161's had vacuum fuel pumps no lever. Leave the glass bowl out of the equation. Glass bowls look cool but they are French for "gas leak"
buckrancher 2,679 #32 Posted March 24, 2021 (edited) A 753 with alterations the air filter being mounted up like that is because its the wrong one the 753 uses a thin air filter they have thick one from a 854 and the thicker one will not mount the normal way as the 753 hood is shorter than a 854 hood also there should be a heavy duty push button in the hole above the key switch Edited March 24, 2021 by buckrancher
rustyspace 10 #33 Posted March 24, 2021 Here is a better view of the coil mounting bosses cast into the block. Also the fuel pump block off plate.
