seuadr 489 #1 Posted March 19, 2021 Hey all, I have a K301 that is off a different red tractor (it isn't green, so it is safe, right? :D) that had a rod shatter in. it took a chunk of cylinder out with it, and appears to have been so kind as to leave some of the rod material on the crank too! the leading theory right now is that it was a rings and piston rebuild that got the oil hole on the wrong side - and it has been suggested that possibly the chip is far enough down on the cylinder that it is rebuildable. here is the rub: I don't really know what i am looking at, so, i don't know. While we are at it, i don't know why it was rebuilt. I don't know if the crank is OK, of the cylinder is true, etc. so i'd like to have a machinist look at it and give their educated/experienced input on if it is salvageable. Rub # 2 - i don't know anybody like that. Open to suggestions, preferably in the mid michigan area so i can take it in/drop it off, cause i'm guessing shipping would be killer. Anyone have any suggestions?

Pullstart 64,582 #5 Posted March 19, 2021 Yep, I was going to suggest NAPA too! The one on Patterson in Grand Rapids has the machine sho on sight. I’ve never done a small engine with them though.

Not all Napa's have machine shops and not all Napa D.C.'s have them either. Getting to be a dying art. But it's as good as a place as any. One good thing it's small enough to ship if you had to. @stevasaurus in Illinois knows of a good shop near him that did a Kohler for him.
