Gregor 4,846 #1 Posted March 16, 2021 A while back, I read a post where someone did not have an air filter on their K341. I can't find the post now, or I would have put this there. There seems to be a lot of breaking of the back plate on K series air filters, and apparently, they are getting scarce. I thought something could be done about that, so I made one. I am sure others have also, but this is my version. I put this on my K321, as a test fit. If I were going to leave it on there, every nut, bolt, and screw would have Locktite. The small round piece is plastic. I know where it came from, and I know what it's used for, and it is VERY tough stuff. It's not hard and brittle like plexiglass, but not easy to bend either. It machines very well. I would say it has a consistency somewhere between pine and maple. It is 5/8" thick. Overkill. !/2" would have worked just fine. Even less if you wanted to add another gasket or 2. The larger round piece is 14 gauge. This does not have the rigidity provided by the rolled edge of an original back plate, so I went thicker. again, 14 may be overkill, but better than not enough. If I wanted, I could add that little brace that fastens to the side of the carb with 2 screws. 4

squonk 41,164 #3 Posted March 16, 2021 The air filter bases that break are off shaker plate motors I.E. C161's. Big air filter housing and the motor well...... shakes!
cschannuth 3,816 #4 Posted March 16, 2021 That is awesome. I’ve never had a big K series before and I am amazed at how much my charger 12 vibrates. I am constantly tightening screws and bolts on that engine. Other than that it runs well and doesn’t use any oil so I’m assuming that’s normal. I may need to have something like this in the future.
Gregor 4,846 #5 Posted March 16, 2021 I don't know what is defined by "shaker plate" motors, but when I got my K161, the plate was broken. Held together with a myriad f washers and screws. I ordered another one from Lincoln
953 nut 55,329 #6 Posted March 16, 2021 @krystolo had a need for an air filter but seems to have that taken care of! 3 1
Gregor 4,846 #7 Posted March 16, 2021 I'm sure that was quite a bit faster, also.
Pullstart 62,922 #8 Posted March 16, 2021 Cool build! Is the stock filter alignment plate that wide? Does it block airflow, like maybe a two piece bracket would free up a pony?
Gregor 4,846 #9 Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) The back plate ....stock 61/2 mine 7 Alignment bar.......stock 4 5/8 mine 4 5/8 Air inlet hole.......stock 1 3/8 mine 1 3/8 Distance between back plate and alignment bar....3/4 This could be increased by simply using longer screws. Filter would still fit just fine. 56 minutes ago, pullstart said: Cool build! Is the stock filter alignment plate that wide? Does it block airflow, like maybe a two piece bracket would free up a pony? A 2 piece bar would open up air space, but there would be no place for the bolt, that your wing nuts screws. Unless I am misunderstanding your thinking. I did just notice this though. The air inlet hole in the stock plate is off set to the top. Mine is centered in the back plate. I had this on my 14HP in my C-141, and it wasn't a problem. Everything cleared fine. I can't say this would be true of all tractors. Why didn't I off set it? I'm a little stupid ya know. I just didn't realize it before. I'm sure this has been said before, but bears repeating. WHATEVER you put on your carb for a filter back plate, the length of the screws is critical. Too short, strip the carb. Too long, and they will bind the choke lever shaft. A second note, I ALWAYS use locktite on everything. A screw sucked in to the cylinder is ugly. DUH I got you now. I'm a little slow ya know. You are talking width, not length. Mine is 3/4, it's what I had on hand. 1/2 could just as easily be used Edited March 16, 2021 by Gregor

Gregor 4,846 #11 Posted March 16, 2021 Apparently my c-141 is a shaker plate. It still has original rubber mounts. Which I had to install twice.
Tuneup 1,433 #12 Posted March 17, 2021 I think you just brought out my inner teenager. Two plates and a large open filter would give me some V-8 snort from under the hood. I mistakenly bought filters that are tool large from eBay so now they will have a use...after the other 10 projects are complete. Nice work!

squonk 41,164 #15 Posted March 17, 2021 Sorta related. Friend had a Kawi mini bike. Wanted Ram-Air so he connected a 1" pipe to the carb. Cut up one of his Father's nice metal funnels and brazed it to the pipe. Had like an 8" opening. Thing pushed so much air through he couldn't go over 10 MPH no mater how big a jet he could put in!
