Out with the old. In with the new. I did drop 1 ball bearing on disassembly. So I will have to find one somewhere.

The outer wheel bearings were shot. Also this is a new to me transmission so I wanted to see where I stood with it.

Almost all the seals are in. I HAD a new input shaft seal. Yup.... crunched it putting it in. Called every place within 60 miles and cant get one till Monday.

Same as any other seal you've done really.

Oil it well so it moves easily. 

If the shaft has a keyway, tape it.

 

I try to use the object that rides on the shaft as the arbor to install the seal.

That's what I did with this one. It went. My gasket and shift boot just showed up. Now if I had that 1 ball bearing I could bolt this thing together. I cut into a couple of old bearings I had here but no luck. Wrong size.

I hate when that happens - and this time you found a seal only to be down one bearing. Grab a beer, or like me a freshly squeezed cup of coffee, and call it a night.

It must be my lucky day. I found that ball bearing. When I pulled the shift fork rod out the ball bearing shot right into the passage to the back of the case. Sat right there in a dab of grease. So I made it this far tonight.

 

Anyone know off the top of your head the torque specs for the bull gear bolts?

With new lock nuts if possible. Or locktite. 

 

Go by google spec for that size bolt and you'll be fine.

Maybe it is a good idea, to have something like an Excel sheed or better a PDF

for each gearbox, with all the needed Bearings and seals they be used in it.

Makes it easier to collect all the Material before you do a rework.

There's a bearing and seal cross reference thread that does. 

That's where I get my part numbers.

I downloaded a pdf from here to get the part numbers for this transmission. It's not often I mess up a seal. I should have ordered extras the first time around but will be ordering more very soon though.

Getting a bit but, Is there any place to find a manual for this mower deck? I looked through all 26 pages of implement manuals, but I didn't see it listed. 48" deck, C-125 Automatic.
